Hello and welcome! I’m Mark Curran, the author and creator of Heavenly Orchids, where orchid care is made easy. My mission is to help you grow healthy, thriving orchids with confidence and joy.
Contact MeGardening has been in my blood since childhood. Growing up in the Irish countryside, I was surrounded by farmers and landscapers. My grandparents were farmers, and my mother was the first landscaper in our neighborhood. My maternal grandfather even grew trees in the rocky, barren landscape of Connemara, Ireland—a testament to perseverance and love for nature.
At just 9 years old, I started my first vegetable garden. I prepared the soil with cow manure, hauling it one wheelbarrow at a time from a neighbor’s dairy farm. Tough work for a nine year old. That year, I harvested an ab undance of onions, carrots, lettuce, potatoes, broccoli, and peas—a rewarding start to my lifelong passion for plants.
After studying landscape design in the U.S. and moving to California, I built a career as a landscape designer and contractor. I immersed myself in learning about plants, design, and construction, gaining expertise in a wide variety of species.
My love for orchids began when a friend gifted me a Vanda orchid. Its heavenly scent filled my apartment, and I was captivated. But keeping it alive and getting it to rebloom was a challenge. Living in a dark apartment with limited resources taught me valuable lessons about orchid care. Over time, I mastered the art of growing orchids, and now I want to share that knowledge with you.
Orchids can be intimidating at first, but they don’t have to be. I created Heavenly Orchids to simplify orchid care and make it accessible to everyone. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced grower, my goal is to provide clear, actionable advice that helps you succeed.
